As a huge Star Wars fan I couldn't help but letter a piece while looking forward to The Last Jedi. You can head over to Society6 where I sell selected art prints, mobile device cases, throw pillows, tote bags, rugs, wall clocks, mugs, laptop skins, travel mugs, etc. of my work. Feel free to follow along with my adventures, work in progress, new lettering pieces, food I cook, and the adventures of #theadmiral.

My name is Greg Eckler and I am a graphic designer, illustrator, and lettering artist living and working outside of Washington, DC. I am also a professor of graphic design at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA). My work has been featured in a myriad of publications, blogs and shows. I'm fueled by a healthy balance of metal music, stand-up comedy, and an undying love of letterforms.

So what is my story?
Is it a long and twisted tale of intrigue and suspense?
Not so much but I often have a thing or two about myself that surprises people (it keeps me interesting).
I started down my current path, as a college dropout (technically I was expelled for failing EVERY class for a year).
I wasn't really sure what I wanted to do with my life with the exception of art.
It however didn't help very much that most people I knew only thought of artists as people who don't make any money.
My parents were supportive but didn't go to college, so they couldn't help much with what it takes to actually, you know, go to college.
The aim of graphic design as a form of communication in today's visually literate society is to inform, educate or persuade the viewer and in doing so motivate them to either take some form of action, change behavioral patterns or previously held beliefs; or to reinforce some form of existing action, behavioral pattern or belief system.
Effective communicators are those capable of bridging unexpected and often unforeseen connections between people and the world around them.
They do this with ideas.
